Se há em Portugal um lugar onde o tempo e o espaço se dispõem de forma  diferente, com uma pulsação peculiar e uma luz essencial que parecem conduzir-nos para fora do próprio tempo e do próprio espaço, esse lugar é, sem dúvida, o Alentejo. Com estes nomes, e graças s palavras que nos legaram, podemos sulcar a história deste espaço único no país e, talvez, em toda a Europa. Nesse sentido, esta antologia assume-se como um mapa, um mapa que também mente, é certo, pois nunca poderá transmitir toda a verdade do Alentejo através dos poemas escolhidos, mas que tem plena consciência de que alguma coisa das paisagens e formas de vida desta região, da sua luz e das suas cores, chegará ao leitor por via da emoção transmitida por estes versos. **** If there is a place in Portugal where time and space work differently,  where things have their own unique rhythm, and where the quality of the light seems to transport the visitor to another realm, then that place is most certainly the Alentejo. With these poets and the words they have left us, we can glimpse some of the history of a region unique within Portugal and perhaps within all of Europe. This anthology is intended, then, as a sort of map of the Alentejo, a map that cannot convey all of the truth of the region, but that aspires to convey something of the scenery and its way of life, its light and its hues, to the reader through the poems selected.
