The Quaternary represents the most recent geological period and is characterised by great climatic and environmental variations. The late Quaternary in the Western Pyrenean region is a synthesis of the diverse multi-disciplinary approaches carried our on this geographical area in order to reconstruct those spatial and temporal changes. This book contains a selection of papers, ranging from Geomorphology and Prehistory to the anlysis of the various paleontologivcal remains, presented at the International Conference on this subject held in the Basque Country (1990). It constitutes the first overview on the present state of Quaternary studies in the Western Pyrenees and the Bay of Biscay area.
