Monkey Island, as its name would suggest, is inhabited by monkeys and nothing but monkeys. They all lead a very peaceful life until the arrival one day of a little elephant, who is sailing around the world on a tree trunk. In need of a rest, the elephant lies down on the beach and all the monkeys believe that he is a whale ?who is drying himself in the sun?. Having never seen such a creature as this, however, they soon become alarmed and Clever Little Monkey decides that it is really a dangerous animal. This prompts the monkeys to give the elephant a very bad reception. They throw stones at him, believing his trunk to be an enormous snake.
Nosy Little Monkey sees that the elephant is very scared and tries to help him when he is hungry. But on doing so, he falls into the water and the other monkeys fear for his life when they see a shark approaching. Much to their surprise, however, the elephant stretches out his trunk to save the little monkey from the jaws of the shark. Thus, the elephant becomes a hero and the monkeys, who had never seen such an animal before, realise the mistake they had made and ask him who he is. Of course they should have done this at the beginning and not judged the elephant on his physical appearance alone. The moral of the story is that all that really matters about people is their true personality, which is to be found in their inner self.
